Machiavellian Personality and Its ‎Relationship to Parenting Styles among ‎Yarmouk University Students ‎

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the degree of Machiavellian personality prevalence among Yarmouk university students and its relationship to parenting styles. To achieve this aim, the study was carried out on a sample of (617) students, (242) males and (375) females, on whom a scale of Machiavellian personality was applied, where the scale was prepared by (Dahling et al., 2009) and a scale of parenting styles, where the scale was prepared by Buri (1991). The results of the study showed that the degree of Machiavellian personality prevalence among Yarmouk university students was moderate, and there were statistically significant differences in the degree of Machiavellian personality prevalence among Yarmouk university students due to gender, in favor of males, while there were no statistically significant differences in the degree of Machiavellian personality prevalence among Yarmouk university students due to the college variable. The results also showed that the most common parenting style among Yarmouk university students was the democratic style and there was a positive relationship between the degree of Machiavellian personality prevalence and both of authoritative and permissive parenting styles
