The Predictability of Professional Self and Self Efficacy in the Effectiveness of School Counselors

The study aimed to explore the predictive ability of professional self and self-efficacy in the counselor effectiveness among school counselors in Irbid Governorate. 232 school counselors (110 males, 122 females) working in the schools of Irbid Governorate participated in the study. To achieve the aims of the study, three measures were used: Professional Self, Self-efficacy and Counselor Effectiveness, after their psychometric properties were enssured. The results showed that the levels of professional self, self-efficacy and counselor effectiveness among school counselors were moderate. Also, the results of the study showed that professional self explained (15%) of the variation in counselor effectiveness, while self-efficacy explained (10%) of the variation in the counselor effectiveness. In light of the results, the researchers recommended conducting in-service training workshops for counselors to improve their self-efficacy and professional self and applying both self- efficacy and professional self in the counselor selection procces.
