Abstract

The study aimed at examining the effectiveness of therapeutic storytelling in decreasing binge eating disorder and impulsivity among a sample of adolescents enrolled in the public schools for girls. The study sample consisted of (30) female students in grades from 6 to 8. They were randomly assigned to two equal groups: An experimental group that received the therapeutic storytelling program and a control group that did not participate in any intervention program. To achieve the aims of the study, Binge Eating Disorder Scale and Impulsivity Scale were used to gather study's data from the two study groups in the pre-post tests and from the experimental group only in the follow-up test, in addition to a Therapeutic Storytelling group-based counseling program. The results of the study showed statistically significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in the mean degrees at Binge Eating Disorder in the post-test, in favor of the experimental group. However, the results showed no statistically significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in the post-test at the subscales of: "Negative Urgency", "Seeking Sensation" and "Positive Urgency" dimensions in the Impulsivity Scale. Also, the results of the post -and follow-up comparisons pointed out that the differences were not significant on the scales at Binge Eating Disorder and the Impulsivity Scale Dimensions. which reflects the stability of the program effect.
