Differences in Social Responsibility among Students at the Secondary Schools Level of Hail in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Light of Several Variables

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the level of social responsibility and its differences among secondary school students in Hail region of Saudi Arabia based on the variables (social status of the family – family monthly income - educational level of father and mother - residential area of the student). The study sample consisted of (1026) students from two sections (the literary and natural sciences branches) of governmental public secondary school males students in Hail region. The researchers used a short version of social responsibility scale after validity and reliability were ensured. Results of the study showed a moderate level of social responsibility for students participating in the study. There is a statistically significant difference between mean scores of all students whose family’s monthly income is (more than 5,000 riyals) when compared to (5001 riyals or less) in favor of families with higher income, there is a statistically significant difference between mean scores of all students whose family’s monthly income is (more than 10,001 riyals) when compared to (5001-10000 riyals) in favor of families with higher income. There is a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of students in the measure of social responsibility among students of parents with an elementary education or below when compared to those of parents with a level of education that is more than secondary school or higher in favor of students of parents with secondary education and above. There is a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of students in the measure of social responsibility in favor of students of parents with university education when compared to those of parents with a level of high school or community college education, and there is a significant difference between the mean scores of students who belong to the family with parents living together when compared to those who belong to a family of separated parents in favor of those who live with parents living together. Several recommendations were suggested
