Abstract

The study aimed at determining the interaction of the
instructor gender and the student gender as a source of potential bias
in students' evaluation of college teaching effectiveness. Data for this
study were collected from (8929) male and female undergraduate
college students who evaluated (159) male and female instructors in
Al al-Bayt university in Jordan in terms of three measures of teaching
effectiveness: organization and teaching methods, communication
with students, and achievement evaluation in the 2002/2003 academic
year. Male students gave male instructors significantly higher ratings
than they gave female instructors on the three teaching evaluation
measures. On the other hand, female students evaluated female
instructors more favorably than male instructors on the
communication with students dimension.
