Abstract

This study aimed at exploring the effectiveness of a
language training program on developing receptive language skills
among children with language disorders. The study sample consisted
of 20 children with language disorder who receive their treatment in
the Jordanian National Center for Speech- Language Therapy in
Zarqa City. Attention was paid to choose children from the age range
of (3-5) years, having an average IQ, and whose language disorder is
not associated with any other disability. The 20 children were
randomly assigned into two equal groups; experimental and control.
The experimental group received the receptive language training
program which lasted for four months and the control group received
the traditional training program used in the Jordanian National
Center for Speech- Language Therapy. Using two-way ANCOVA in
data analysis, results have shown significant differences between the
groups in regard to their receptive language skills for the favor of the
experimental group. Furthermore, results have shown significant
differences among males and females in favor of female children.
Moreover, results have shown significant interaction between the
group and gender; and that the treatment program was more effective
for girls. Different implications and recommendations were suggested
based on the results of this study.
