Status Quo of Types of Influence Tactics Used by Principals at Arab Technical Secondary Schools across the Green Line and Their Relationship to Their Power Sources

This study aimed at identifying the types of influence tactics used by principals at the Arab technical secondary schools across the Green Line and their relation to their power sources. The study used the descriptive survey correlation approach. Two questionnaires were designed; one: for the influence tactics and the other for power sources, and were administered to (560) respondents. The results showed that six types of influence tactics were the mostly used; namely, legitimation, inspirational appeal, rational persuasion, collaboration, ingratiation and consultation. Two tactics: Apprising and pressure were moderately used and three tactics: Personal appeal, coalition and exchange were rarely used. Seven power sources came with higher means: Legitimation, expertise, reference, rewarding, information, rationality and environmental sources and one source (coercion) came with a low mean. The results also revealed a positive relationship between the influence tactics and power sources, except for “coercion” that was negatively related to most of the influence tactics.
